John has training and experience working with individuals, couples, and families. John’s counseling practice focuses on adolescents, young adults, and adults in the following areas: Relational Issues, Marital Counseling, Pre-Marital Counseling, Parenting Issues, Adolescents, Children, Career Guidance, Career Counseling, Spiritual Issues, and Christian Counseling.
Marital Counseling – John takes a multi-modal approach to marriage counseling. Some of his marital counseling is based on the well-researched PREP and Gottman models. Please click on the PREP link above to learn more about PREP research and how it has benefited couples. John’s marital counseling is individualized to fit each couple’s unique situation.
Career Counseling – John has experience with a wide variety of career assessments and career counseling tools. These include the Self-Directed Search and Campbell Interest and Skill Survey. John believes that a person is best able to achieve fulfillment in their career choice when certain factors are in place. These include interests, work values, personality, and skills or potential skills.
Comprehensive Counseling – John has also worked with individuals, families, adolescents, and single parents. John’s counseling is comprehensive in that he desires to address the complete person. He believes the psychological, spiritual, physical, relational, and specific career and/or parenting roles play a part in the overall well-being of the individual.
Education and Vocational History John holds a B.S. in Psychology from John Brown University and a Masters degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. John completed his counseling internship in 1999. He received his license to practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor in December of 1999. He has worked in various counseling settings since obtaining his license. These include counseling in an organizational, Christian, and private practice setting. He recently finished his coursework for a certification in career coaching. John has also done several presentations on ‘Ten Characteristics of a Healthy Relationship’ and the ‘Forty Developmental Assets’ at local churches and other organizations.
