Marriage Counseling

Reconnecting and Recommitting

Our staff members involved in marriage training have all completed John Gottman’s Level 1: Marriage Therapy: A Research Based Approach (www.gottman.com)  The first four sessions involved an assessment and plan that include and initial couples session, a minimum of one individual session each, and then an additional couples session where long term goals are formatted.  The ideal process takes place over the course of a minimum of a year with sessions tapering to quarterly “checkin’s” as progress occurs through small changes often.  Goals are tailored to individual couples needs but often include areas such as Conflict Resolution, Communication Skills, Increasing Positivity, and other aspects of the Sound Relationship House.  Couples are encouraged to date monthly, become active in a local church or find other community support, and continue to work on personal issues so that two “I” ‘s will make a strong “We.”

We encourage couples to truly become one by not losing their own identities but uniting in love and demonstrating their love actively through Love Languages, Forgiveness, and Embracing one and other despite the changes and often challenges that life brings.  We also address personality issues as opposites often attract and then attack.

Assessment tools such as Gottman’s Checklist or the ENRICH (www.lifeinnovations.com) can enhance the marriage counseling experience.  Michelle Nietert, M.A., LPC-S is a trainer with Life Innovations and all staff involved in marriage counseling have been trained in the program as well and can administer the instrument for a fee of $60.00.
