Counseling Focus Amy equally enjoys her time counseling adults and teenagers. She has worked in both private and community counseling clinics and public schools, and with children and adults in individual, couples, family, and group settings. She has training in Psychoanalysis, Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Career Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, Sex Therapy & Sex Offender Therapy, and Group Therapy. Client Specialties · Individuals and Couples – including marital issues, separation, divorce, blended families, and dating · Teens – including school issues, and relationship conflict · Court mandated cases for anger management, substance abuse, and curfew violations · Grief – including death and dying, loss, and long-term illness · Women’s Issues – including sexual abuse and eating disorders · Military, Veterans, and VFW · Depression, anxiety, low self esteem, and life transitions * * Christian Counseling is always available by request. Age Range: Amy counsels with adults and adolescents ages 13 and up. Fees and Counseling Schedule Amy does not accept insurance. Session fees are $70 and can be adjusted based on a sliding scale. Some issues will require only a few sessions, while others may demand numerous sessions over the course of several months or throughout the year. Amy will always work with you to find a counseling schedule that fits your current needs. Information on Career and Job Loss Counseling After graduating with her Masters, Amy spent over 8 years as a Senior IT Recruiter. She is particularly attuned to the difficulties surrounding those who are changing careers or facing job loss. She has guided men and women through both the challenges of losing or and the joys of finding new employment. She worked during the DotCom crash and helped to guide many people in the technical field through the challenges associated with the marketplace during that era. If you are struggling with career change or job loss issues, she welcomes the opportunity to counsel you. Personal Statement We all know that self-doubt is our biggest enemy, but there is always hope! In any situation, you can work to become a stronger person with belief in yourself, and you can decide to move forward toward a more positive self-image and healthier relationships. Negative thought patterns invade every area of our lives. We are our own worst enemy when it comes to healing, wholeness, and happiness. When you decide to make that important step to see a counselor, it will be an honor to listen to you and work together on the issues and problems that you are facing in your life. Credentials and Supervision Amy Doar is a 3rd year LPC Intern who graduated in December of 1998 with a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Centenary College of Louisiana in June of 1994. Amy has training in Psychoanalysis, Gestalt, Grief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Career Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, Sex Therap, Sex Offender Treatment Therapy, and Group Therapy.
